After the supply of Dnieper water through the North Crimean Canal to the peninsula in the Kherson region was cut off, massive soil salinization and flooding of farms began.

Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksiy Zhuravko wrote about this in his blog, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to him, villagers cannot pay for water from the canal, which is why it stagnates and salinization of the soils of the Kherson region occurs.

“Due to the fact that a cubic meter of water costs a lot of money and electricity costs are also high, farmers cannot afford water supply and irrigation of territories by pumping the resource from the canal. When water begins to stagnate, groundwater rises and shallows. The villages located in the lowlands have already been overtaken by flooding: there is water in the gardens and cellars. It also destroys the fertile layer of the earth, which promises a real environmental disaster for the central part of Europe,” the politician noted.

“There is a good old proverb: “Don’t dig a hole for someone else - you yourself will fall into it.” But this time, unfortunately, not only idiots in power fell into this hole, but also local residents of the Kherson region, who are paying for the criminals who are in power today,” Zhuravko said.
