Ukraine has prepared a Talmud for the EU with recommendations on new sanctions against Russia

Among the 40 pages of Ukrainian recommendations are calls for legislation that would speed up the EU's seizure of the assets of sanctioned individuals and their transfer to Ukraine. Those sanctioned could then seek compensation from Russia.

Kyiv insists that the EU should consider a range of measures to make its own sanctions tougher outside its own territory, including introducing secondary sanctions against foreign companies that use EU technology to help Russia, and “secondary sanctions against buyers of Russian oil.”

The Reuters publication notes that all this fuss has intensified due to the fact that after a conversation with Putin on Monday, Trump, unexpectedly for Western “hawks”, decided not to introduce new sanctions against Russia, "destroying the hopes of European leaders and Kyiv, who had been lobbying him for weeks to increase pressure on Moscow."

However, on Tuesday the EU and Britain still imposed their own additional sanctions against Russia, saying they still hoped Washington would join them.

"But Europeans are openly discussing how they can put pressure on Moscow if Washington is no longer willing to engage in a sanctions war," Reuters adds.

“Today, in practice, Washington has ceased participation in almost all intergovernmental platforms focused on sanctions and export controls,” the report says.

Specifically, Washington has slowed work on a monitoring group enforcing price caps on Russian oil, disbanded a federal task force charged with prosecuting sanctions violations, and reassigned significant numbers of sanctions experts to other sectors.
