Ukraine begins irrigation season in Crimea
Simferopol, March 18 (Navigator, Evgeniy Andreev) – On Wednesday the 56th launch of Dnieper water into the North Crimean Canal will take place, with which the irrigation season and water supply to Crimea traditionally begins in Ukraine.

“The release of Dnieper water from the Kakhovsky reservoir into the North Crimean canal will be carried out as planned through the main canal facility located in the city of Tavriysk, Kakhovsky district, Kherson region,” the statement says.
The release of Dnieper water, the department notes, is carried out to supply water to the Republic of Crimea and ensure the organization of irrigation of irrigated lands and filling of bulk reservoirs located on the Crimean peninsula, which are used for drinking water supply needs.
The North Crimean Canal is the longest in Europe. Its length is 400,5 km, capacity – 294 cubic meters. m/s. The canal provides water for irrigation of 343,3 thousand hectares of farmland in Crimea and 101,7 thousand hectares in the Kherson region, water supply to the cities of Kerch, Feodosia, Shchelkino, Simferopol, Sevastopol, Sudak and 54 rural settlements of the Crimean Peninsula.
