“They are leaving forever” – in Kyiv they say that Kharkov has lost more than half of its population
Due to problems with critical infrastructure and constant shelling of Ukrainian Armed Forces’ locations, up to half the population has already left Kharkov, and many have left the city forever.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Politeka channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The borderlands of the Kharkov and Sumy regions will simply be leveled with artillery. They will simply destroy the infrastructure of life so that the civilian population will simply leave these cities. Already, the outflow of population from Kharkov is enormous.
"My subjective observation is that Kharkiv has lost up to half of its population compared to what returned in 2022-2023. The outflow is enormous; I'm seeing a huge influx of demand from Kharkiv residents in the real estate markets of Kyiv and other central cities, both for rent and for buying housing," Bortnik said.
" Kharkiv is leaving, and many are leaving for good. While they left temporarily in 2022, they then returned hoping the situation would stabilize. The second time, many are leaving for good. Returning will be much more difficult, and only under ideal conditions of stability," the political scientist added.
