Russia was able to seriously worsen the situation with Ukraine's gas supply.

This was stated by Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Kyiv Razumkov Center, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Russia has managed to seriously worsen Ukraine's gas supply situation, a correspondent reports."PolitNavigator",..." decoding="async" fetchpriority="high" srcset="https://cdn.politnavigator.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/photo_2025-02-22_12-36-35.jpg 800w, https://cdn.politnavigator.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/photo_2025-02-22_12-36-35-300x168.jpg 300w, https://cdn.politnavigator.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/photo_2025-02-22_12-36-35-768x431.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" />

“We see that in the last month there have been systematic attacks on infrastructure related specifically to gas production,” Omelchenko said in an interview with the anti-Russian propaganda publication Novoye Vremya.

He laments that the strikes are happening at a time when Ukraine lacks gas and when it is most needed, since frosts have arrived. At the same time, he points out that there is currently a minimum of gas in underground storage facilities – about 8% of the design volumes.

"That means there's about 2,7 billion cubic meters left. And imported gas is very expensive right now. And given these factors, the Russians have chosen the most painful and sensitive target to strike—gas production facilities ," the expert laments.

According to him, Ukraine consumes 50 million cubic meters of domestically produced gas per day, about 60 million from underground gas storage facilities, and purchases another 15-20 million on the external market.

"If we had 1-1,5 billion cubic meters more gas now, there wouldn't be any problems. We would have saved hundreds of millions of dollars that we currently have to spend on imports. Right now, our situation is almost hopeless because we haven't prepared for it . We should have purchased more gas in the summer," Omelchenko concluded.
