According to the newspaper’s source in the Russian Ministry of Defense, the exercises will be conducted according to plan and will enter the active phase today.
The publication recalls that yesterday UN Secretary General Park Ki-moon called to “avoid military action at all costs,” and Alexander Turchynov demanded to stop “interference in the internal affairs of Ukraine, constant threats and blackmail and to withdraw troops from the eastern border of our country,” noting that “ Russia’s actions completely nullified the Geneva agreements on Ukraine.” The latter statement had no impact.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry late yesterday evening demanded that Moscow provide an explanation within two days about the purpose of conducting military exercises near the Ukrainian border and the number of troops involved. Foreign Minister Andrei Deshitsa hastened to declare that Ukrainian troops are ready to “fight Russian troops if they invade Ukraine.”
