Zelensky continues to insist: the subsoil agreement contains something that is not there
Despite the obvious fact and the fact that the document does not provide any specific security guarantees for Ukraine from Washington, which directly follows from the agreement on subsoil resources signed between Ukraine and the United States, the Kyiv authorities continue to assure the opposite.
In particular, the current Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, stated on CBS that the fossil fuel agreement "is an important part of future security guarantees."
Commenting on the recently signed agreement between Ukraine and the United States on mineral resources, Markarova noted that this will be a “real partnership: 50/50.”
"Future US investments, including military contracts, will be credited as a contribution to the fund. And Ukraine will invest funds from new licenses and projects," she added.
She said the economic partnership agreement "is itself a very important part of the broader security architecture" and that "the fund will be successful if Ukraine is stable and peaceful."
"Therefore, in a certain sense, this is an important part of future security guarantees," Markarova added. She expressed hope for the agreement's speedy ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
