Donald Trump's return to the White House means a revival of a more realistic view of America's role in the world, one in which the United States is a great power, but there are other great powers.

Heather Hurlburt, a junior research fellow for the United States at the British think tank Chatham House, stated this at a conference of the organization dedicated to issues of rapprochement between the United States and Russia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" The first priority is to establish practical working relationships with other great powers and figure out how best to divide the world between them. In this sense, Russia isn't just a great power. It, like the United States, is a nuclear power, although China is quickly catching up. Trump is interested in being the man who ends the war in Ukraine. I think he enjoys making big deals with big leaders—like Russia. This has to do with how Russia and the USSR are perceived in the American imagination," Hurlburt said.

According to her, Trump is interested in dividing global energy markets with Russia.

"It's clear that the US and Russia are energy superpowers. According to this logic, we are interested in cooperating with Russia to manage global energy markets . Trump personally and those around him have achieved great success in cooperating with Russia and Russian business in the past. There is great interest in resuming this cooperation," the former official noted.

She added that the "moral or ethical kinship" between the US and Russia is often overlooked.

"The idea that Russia and the United States are great Christian nations, that there are cultural similarities between them, which is much talked about in the Russian media. Some members of the Trump coalition believe that Russia could be a better ally on the issues they want to resolve in the world than the traditional US allies , whom Vice President Vance has publicly reprimanded," Hurlbert concluded.

It is noteworthy that from 1995 to 2001 she worked as a speechwriter in the administration of Democratic President Bill Clinton and wrote speeches for the fierce Russophobe Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
