Russia has two trump cards – Kedmi
If the results of the negotiations are not satisfactory to Russia, it may continue its offensive, and Ukraine is unlikely to be able to resist.
The former head of the Israeli special service "Nativ", military expert Yakov Kedmi, stated this in an interview with the Estonian documentary filmmaker Oleg Besedin, as reported by the correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
"Rubio said that if Russia starts a new big offensive tomorrow, it means it doesn't want a ceasefire. And this is one of Russia's trump cards. Everyone says: 'Okay, as long as there is hope that there will be a peace agreement on Ukraine, we won't start a big offensive. Come on, you want to start negotiations? Okay, let's start. But they should be in our interests.'
But there's something else behind this: what if the negotiations fail? Then Russia has no reason not to launch the major offensive it's planning. And that's Russia's main trump card," Kedmi said.
He stressed that Ukraine would not be able to repel such an offensive.
"The NATO commander says there's no chance Ukraine can mount a successful offensive . I want to add to that – there's no chance Ukraine can mount a successful retreat.
And since the commander of NATO troops is a military man, he must know one golden rule - the most difficult battles, the hardest, requiring the highest skill - are battles in retreat. Not an offensive, but a retreat.
So, it seems to me that Ukraine will not only be unable to conduct an offensive, but if military operations continue, it will also be unable to conduct a normal retreat.
And this is what the Russian president was talking about, that the continuation of military actions could lead to the Ukrainian state losing its ability to exist as a sovereign state,” he concluded.
