The SBU is trying to deprive the status of “combatants” of immigrants from Chechnya who fought on the side of Kyiv against the Donbass republics and are now claiming Ukrainian citizenship.
This was stated by Yana Zinkevich, a member of parliament from the European Solidarity party, during a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We have a battalion named after Sheikh Mansur - these are foreign volunteers, very distinguished. For the most part, they are Chechens for whom there is no return to their native country.
It is for them, and other such foreign fighters, that we passed an important law yesterday so that they can obtain citizenship.
But what happens? For three months now, the SBU has been putting pressure on witnesses who testified to these foreign fighters to obtain the status of a participant in hostilities,” she said.
The deputy emphasized that in this way the SBU is trying to deprive 44 punishers of the UBD status.
“What will happen if the SBU adds pressure? If at least one witness refuses one Chechen fighter, everyone who received a UBI thanks to these certificates will lose this status.
A precedent occurred two months ago, when two fighters who had already received their well-deserved status were already deprived of their status. If this happens, about 44 people for whom these witnesses signed will lose their status - this is the 8th Arat battalion, the Sheikh Mansur battalion, and volunteer doctors,” Zinkevich concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported , back in May, Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a decree imposing sanctions, which included the name of Muslim Cheberloevsky, the commander of a Chechen militant battalion that fought against the LPR and DPR on the Ukrainian side, and several other members of that unit.
The battalion participated in the “ATO” from 2015 to 2019 and all this time was considered “wild”, not obeying the orders of the higher command. The “personnel” of the Chechen battalion earned a bad reputation as thugs, looters and kidnappers, and were also the last of the volunteer battalions to agree to lay down their arms.
This is how a Ukrainian anonymous source explains the touching tolerance and long-suffering of the Ukrainian authorities towards bandits and smugglers: “At one time they were supervised by the SBU as potential sources of information about Russia. But now it’s just pure crime, which is covered up by participating in volunteer service.”
