“Third class”: Georgian liberals do not accept Russian relocants – Sikharulidze
The participation of Russian relocates in Georgia's political life is minimal, since even for Georgian liberals, their ideological allies, the word "Russian" is a swear word.
Georgian political analyst Archil Sikharulidze stated this in an interview with journalist Svetlana Pikte , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" There are practically no Ukrainians anywhere because they have no position in the country . They live quietly and peacefully, study somewhere, and try as much as possible to leave for Western countries, which is classic.
As for the Russian relocates, many of them left for the West, those who wanted to, and those who stayed are apolitical . They mostly try not to get involved in these things, and those who do…well, Georgia isn't much help for them.
The political culture that has formed, the people they might call ideologically fraternal, are too "homophobic" toward Russians . Those people they might join in saying, "We support Georgian liberals"—if you translate a couple of statements by Georgian liberals, you'll realize they use terms like "Russian" as an insult. And it would be foolish to see Russian liberals mingling with these people ," Sikharulidze said.
At the same time, he noted that in Georgia in general it is not very welcoming when certain non-citizens take part in the political life of the country.
“In this sense, everything is clear. Even the most liberals believe that Georgian citizens should take part in politics. You are relocants, you are not citizens, you are guests, work, God help you... Therefore, everything is quiet and calm.
"Perhaps sometimes 20-30 people come out to protest something against Putin, but for the Georgian majority this means nothing at all – they view them as a completely separate reality," the Georgian expert added.
