It is far from certain that the US will develop Ukrainian deposits, even if the corresponding deal is signed.
This was stated by Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky, a former party ally of Zelensky, who is currently in pretrial detention on treason charges, on the air of a video blog by journalist Alexander Shelest, who is recognized as a foreign agent in Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Today, as part of the global technological revolution it is pursuing, the United States is interested in preventing the further spread of China's influence into rare earth metal mining and production basins. To keep China out of these basins, who does the United States need to negotiate with? Russia and Ukraine.
" Regarding Ukraine, I don't think the United States will invest anything in rare earth metal mining in Ukraine. The agreement Trump is proposing to Zelenskyy today is a right of first night agreement, which means that if rare earth metal mining ever begins in Ukraine, the United States will have the right to determine who will receive the rights to develop it and to whom the rare earth metals themselves will be sold once they are extracted and enriched. The goal is to prevent China from developing these deposits, to secure their ownership, and to sign an agreement," Dubinsky stated.
