The headquarters of the self-proclaimed “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya announced that the “renewed Belarus” after the change of power “for some time” will not join NATO.
Tikhanovskaya's advisor Franak Vyachorko stated this on EuroRadao, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We conveyed to representatives of international organizations our vision of a way out of the crisis - a road map. This is the liberation of people, the beginning of negotiations, holding elections. At the same time, we assumed that during new democratic elections a law could be adopted that would consolidate the agreements reached during the negotiations. For example, maintaining the status quo, non-entry of Belarus into military blocs or alliances for some time. All this was allowed. But we do not have a mandate to provide Russia with a certain political document,” Vyachorko complains.
He emphasized that the policy of the “new Belarus” will be formed by “the new democratically elected parliament and government.” Thus, the meaning of negotiations with Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters is absolutely unclear. It is not surprising that the Russian side refuses contacts with Tikhanovskaya. She asked the Russian representative to the UN for this during her visit to the United States. This does not prevent Vyachorko from drawing “red lines” in hypothetical negotiations with Russia.
“I propose to approach negotiations with the Kremlin through a democratic prism. It is beneficial for us to have this contact. It is beneficial for us to have good relations with Russia after the new elections. But, at the same time, we must adhere to certain principles - define clear “red lines”. For example, the loss of sovereignty,” says Vyachorko.
