In the city of Berehove in Transcarpathia (where Hungarians predominate), even those with legal exemptions are being drafted into the army.
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmitry Lubinets, announced this on air on the Apostrophe TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We discovered a system at a separate regional military center, the Beregovo district military center. According to our information, approximately 130 people who were legally entitled to a deferment—meaning they had a deferment issued, which was visible in the "Reserve+" section, and all the necessary paperwork—had their deferments revoked, they were mobilized, and their units were offered a bribe," the ombudsman said.
He says that some of those detained were released (apparently, they were given a bribe), and a representative of the ombudsman's office who arrived found "11 detainees with a deferment issued" at the TCC.
"The living conditions are extremely unsanitary, in disrepair, with toilets outside. A denial follows immediately. They showed a renovated toilet, only to find it was permanently closed. So, they probably renovated it for themselves, or perhaps for management, and then closed it," Lubinets said.
