Fears of a Bulgarian writer: “The Russians took away the Cyrillic alphabet from us!”
Russia ignores the role of the Bulgarians in enlightening the Slavs and creating the Russian script, and also appropriated the Cyrillic alphabet.
Writer and journalist Ognyan Stamboliev told the Fakti.bg portal about this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Stamboliev, in an interview with the Fakti.bg portal, claims that the exhibition dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literacy and Culture, organized at the entrance to the Russian Cultural Information Center in Sofia, allegedly does not mention “the fact that for centuries the Bulgarians played an important role in the education of the Slavs.”
“Thus, Russia has officially erased Bulgaria from the history of writing, which was created by the brothers Cyril and Methodius,” Stamboliev said. – Russia, instead of thanking the Bulgarians, hides and even completely denies our role and significance in the baptism of Rus' and the creation of its literature. They are even trying to appropriate the Cyrillic alphabet and call it their own alphabet.”

Earlier, commenting on similar statements by numerous Bulgarian politicians, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova pointed out back in 2017 that no one in Russia is trying to deny the contribution of the First Bulgarian Kingdom in the creation of Slavic writing.
At the same time, according to a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Day of Slavic Literature should help bring people closer together, and not become a cause of conflict.
Let us note that the Bulgarian did not even remember the “first Europeans” who dug up the Black Sea.
