The revived production of passenger cars under the Moskvich brand will find a market, the mayor’s office of the Russian capital is confident. Now the plant has announced the start of sales at a price of 1 million rubles.
“Many of my friends who work in the Moscow government consider the Moskvich crossover as a car for daily work trips. Taking into account the current situation on the market, we think that the car will be in demand,” Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov assured the Kommersant newspaper.
In his opinion, Muscovites will purchase carsharing companies, as well as to update the taxi fleet - for example, instead of outdated Huyndai.
“Moscow taxi companies alone need approximately 50 thousand cars to renew their fleets,” the official said.
He said that another Moskvich model is in development - one that runs on electricity, and it should already be completely Russian (many people call the current crossover a product of the Chinese automobile industry, assembled in the Russian Federation under a different brand).
“This will be a new Russian electric vehicle platform, built from Russian components. It is clear that, probably, some of the components will be imported, this is normal, because even in China there is no complete 100% localization. But we want to strive for this,” said the vice mayor.
