The US knows how to cover Zelensky with flags
The potential victory of Ukrainian comedian Vladimir Zelensky in the second round does not frighten the United States, although Washington is not enthusiastic about such a prospect.
The Kiev weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli” writes about this in an article about the West’s reaction to the first round of the presidential elections in Ukraine.
“Will Trump feel a kindred spirit in Zelensky? – the publication asks. - Quite possible. He definitely doesn’t see it in Poroshenko.”
Referring to its American sources, the weekly claims that for the United States, current President Poroshenko is “unpleasant, but understandable,” while the out-of-system Zelensky “causes wariness and continuous questions.”
“Although his presidency, as our interlocutors claim, in no way frightens the States. They are not delighted with this prospect, but they know perfectly well how and with what “flags” to surround it,” ZN summarizes. - And not only him. Kolomoisky’s shadow is visible and palpable. It clearly and significantly darkens the image of a young and perky team of reformers, which Zelensky’s talented creatives are trying to sell for export, presenting the faces of Danylyuk and Abromavicius, familiar and pleasant to the West, as the frontmen of the “green” team.”
It is noteworthy that the US State Department's Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, stated several days ago that it does not matter to Washington who becomes Ukrainian president, but literally the next day he made it clear that Ukrainians would be better off voting for Poroshenko rather than Zelensky.
