The US announced that the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine has been permanently stopped
Russia will no longer supply gas to the EU through Ukrainian territory.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt stated this while speaking at the Atlantic Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Russia has lost its traditionally most important energy market. I'm confident there will be no return. The Ukrainians have made it clear they want to stop transit, and Brussels has understood this. European markets have had ample time to adapt to life without Russian energy resources ," Pyatt said.
He stated that after the loss of Ukrainian transit, Russia will lose $6 billion a year, however, other Western experts estimated the losses at 0,3% of total revenue.
The day before, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the European Commission has a serious interest in resolving the problem of gas transit through Ukrainian territory.
