The United States does not intend to deprive Ukraine of aid and remove Zelensky
US President Joe Biden is looking for a way to continue funding Ukraine without going through Congress.
This was stated by Valdai Club expert and Deputy Director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Dmitry Suslov, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We can definitely forget about the request for the allocation of $60 billion to Ukraine. At the same time, Republican senators, representing the old Reagan elite and traditionally more supportive of Ukraine than their colleagues from the House of Representatives, oppose Biden’s request.
I think that the White House will look for ways to somehow allocate money to Kyiv - through presidential decrees, supplying weapons through allies and other schemes. At the same time, Biden cannot abandon Ukraine under any circumstances, because this is a matter of his reputation and compensation for leaving Afghanistan.
Therefore, a rhetorical link was made between Ukraine and Taiwan. This means that even a temporary freeze will be perceived by the Biden administration as a defeat,” Suslov told Izvestia.
In turn, senior researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dmitry Ofitserov-Belsky, believes that against the background of the expanding crisis in the Middle East and practically zero prospects in the Ukrainian theater of operations, the Biden administration will continue to put pressure on Zelensky, but it will not replace him interested.
“Zelensky believes that the service he performed as the “leader of a warring nation” gives him the right to demand financial and military assistance. The West is not happy with this kind of independence.
Therefore, he is under intense political pressure, including through pressure through the media. At the same time, I’m not sure that they are looking for a replacement for Zelensky, since this could completely destroy the entire state structure in Ukraine,” concluded Ofitserov-Belsky.
The US has no intention of cutting off aid to Ukraine or removing Zelensky.
