The US threatens Nord Stream 2 with new problems
European, and especially German companies, have invested too much in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to abandon it under US pressure.
The director of the Energy Development Fund, Sergei Pikin, stated this in a comment to Moskovsky Komsomolets, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“From time to time, Europe will put its finger on the Russian pipe. Perhaps there will be accusations again from environmentalists or public organizations. Nevertheless, European and especially German companies have bet too much on the Russian project, so they will not agree to leave the game,” Pikin is convinced.
In turn, Igor Yushkov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, believes that after completion of construction, Gazprom will face another serious problem.
“The new sanctions that Washington threatens may affect European companies that will be involved in the maintenance and operation of the pipeline, including its onshore part,” Yushkov warns.
“In this regard, ensuring the stable operation of European partners will be the next stage in strengthening SP-2 in the European market,” the article notes.
