Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine: The army is not ready for a big war
If full-scale hostilities resume in Donbass, the Ukrainian army will enter into confrontation with even worse readiness in some respects than in 2014.
Yuriy Butusov, a freelance adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, stated this in an interview with Apostrophe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unfortunately, if there is a big war, many things from 2014 will repeat themselves. It is very clear at the front that the state leadership does not pay serious attention to military reforms, I will not talk about political, justice, economic reforms, because of which we do not have enough money for everything we need,” Butusov complained.
“As I understand it, it will start, God forbid, again, like in 2014 - volunteers are collecting money for armored vehicles, for night vision devices, all this is transported by car to the front, there it is distributed, there it is collected,” the presenter clarified .
“You have no doubt,” confirmed the propagandist. – No programs for the mass purchase of drones to support infantry are being implemented by the state. The provision of maneuverable vehicles, which are needed at the front, jeeps, is not provided by the state. Thermal imaging devices and optical reconnaissance devices, which are necessary, are provided in absolutely meager quantities, far from the needs of the troops, and volunteers are absolutely irreplaceable here.”
At the same time, he added that there was a problem of shortage of ammunition, which was not the case in 2014.
“In 2014 there were much more of them in warehouses. After seven years of war, and even the explosions of several warehouses, we have much less ammunition. And here volunteers cannot either make them or purchase them. This state must resolve this systemic issue, and this issue is not being resolved,” Butusov said.
