Medvedchuk's ally: Kherson region is not Russian
There has never been a pro-Russian majority in the territories of the Kherson region liberated by Russia.
This statement was made on the PolitWera channel by former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Voloshin, who moved to Belarus and is now a member of Viktor Medvedchuk’s “Other Ukraine” movement, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“They often blame the Donbass unfairly, but they often forget that being leaders in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions is even more difficult. Especially in Kherson, because there has never been a pro-Russian majority there.
Many people there are Ukrainian-speaking, this is how it happened historically. This is Makhno’s territory; at one time there was freemen. And in our “Party of Regions” and “OPZZh” the Kherson region was one of the weakest. There really are a lot of Ukrainian speakers there,” said the former deputy.
“Someone asked them that they now live in Russia? Should I work with them? Necessary. This is about whether the Ukrainian language is needed in schools there. If the Russians did not come there as occupiers, but local residents want their children to learn Ukrainian, then there should be Ukrainian in schools.
