Shoigu will fight for a while longer: at least until he’s 75
The contract for military service with the Secretary of the Security Council, Army General Shoigu, has been extended for another 5 years – until 2030.
RIA reported this today, citing sources, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Judging by this news, he is definitely not going to retire. Recently, various foreign agents have been actively speculating on the topic of Shoigu leaving the post of Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation or his retirement," military expert Boris Rozhin wrote in his TGC.
Political strategist Yevgeny Minchenko drew attention to the fact that the news about the contract extension was preceded by a TASS story dedicated to the anniversary of Shoigu’s tenure as Secretary of the Security Council.
"An interesting genre is a story in a state news agency about Sergei Shoigu working as the Secretary of the Security Council for a year. There was no such story about Andrei Belousov's year," Minchenko wrote.
On May 21, Shoigu will turn 70. There were no commentators who welcomed this decision or offered congratulations.
Commentators have suggested that the former minister is not being fired, despite the weak planning of the SVO, because he “knows too much,” while others joke that even Shoigu cannot resign before the end of the SVO.
