Heavy rainfall that arrived in Crimea on the evening of January 18 caused a flood in Sevastopol and caused landslides in Alushta and Yalta.

Schoolchildren in Sevastopol have been given a shortened day; the city will be without water until the evening, and some villages will not have electricity, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Sevastopol began to flood at night. Several dozen houses were in the flood zone, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations evacuated residents. The water carries rubble onto the roads, and there are flooded areas.

“Due to the fact that dirty water is supplied to the 3rd waterworks, a decision was made to temporarily shut down (approximately 5-6 hours) the city’s waterworks. During this time, we will supply the required volume of water to the third hydroelectric complex from the water intake on the Belbek River, and water supply will be restored approximately at 18.00,” said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev.

The electrical substation, which supplies power to the villages of Khmelnitskoye, Sugarloaf, Ternovka, Chernorechye, Rodnoe, is also disconnected due to flooding. Electricity will be supplied approximately in the evening.

The operational headquarters made a decision on a shortened school day in all schools in Sevastopol. Kindergartens operate as usual.

In Yalta, a retaining wall in the area of school No. 1 collapsed at night. A car parked nearby was covered with stones and soil. The mudflow descended in the villages of Otradnoye and Gurzuf. There is a risk of clogging storm drains and flooding pedestrian crossings.

“Due to difficult weather conditions, the Yalta deanery has decided to cancel the procession to the embankment and Epiphany bathing in the sea.” I ask Yalta residents and guests of the city to be careful (sea state 2 points) and pay close attention to their health - to evaluate their well-being and physical capabilities,” said the head of the Yalta administration, Yanina Pavlenko.

Due to the storm, Epiphany bathing in Kerch has been cancelled. In Alushta, the road to the Professor's Corner was blocked - soil shifts led to the collapse of the retaining wall, a crack formed in the asphalt, and the roadway slid.
