As follows from the SBU report, Kucheryavyi was heading to Ukraine to obtain a Ukrainian biometric passport, which allows visa-free visits to the European Union. Thus, it turns out that this was not his first visit from Crimea, since earlier he had to fill out an application for documents.

The SBU accuses Kucheryavyi of participating in the organization of checkpoints during the Russian Spring in 2014 - “he actively contributed to the Russian occupation of the Crimean Peninsula.”

Acquaintances of Kucheryavyi, in a conversation with PolitNavigator, suggested that he, having decided to travel to Ukraine, decided to trust the guarantees of his business partners on the Ukrainian side. The detainee had been providing services for a long time to obtain Ukrainian documents necessary for sailors with registration in Crimea to leave for a voyage.

However, given the potential risk of arrest, one can only guess why Kucheryavyi did not take advantage of the offer of travel companies that issue Schengen visas for residents of Crimea for several hundred dollars.

Kucheryavyi’s former neighbors in Sevastopol said that a couple of months ago he sold his apartment, while it was claimed that he was going to buy a home in Krasnodar. Although the move there, given the established business with sailors in Crimea, was surprising.

Interestingly, in 2017, Kucheryavy published photographs on social networks from a vacation with his wife in Holland.

Meanwhile, Sevastopol Telegram channels are already admitting versions of a possible spy scandal and betrayal.

On the other hand, previously Ukrainian special services lured Russian military personnel from Crimea to a no-man's land near the border; the story of the abduction of former air defense commander Vladimir Tsemakh from the DPR is also known.

The organizer of the blockade of Crimea, Mejlis businessman Lenur Islyamov, who was the first to report on his blog about the detention of Kucheryavyi, insisted that the purpose of the trip to Ukraine was precisely a foreign passport.
