Old debts to Ukrainian banks are illegally written off from the cards of Crimean residents
Russian debt collectors are extorting debts from Crimean residents to Ukrainian banks, despite the legislation in place. Viktoria Zhukovskaya, head of the Crimean human rights committee "A Matter of Honor," stated this on the US State Department-funded radio station "Crimea.Realities," as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Zhukovskaya, back in 2017, a law was passed that wrote off Crimeans’ debts to Ukrainian banks if they amounted to less than five million rubles. At the same time, collection companies do not comply with the law and demand repayment of loans.

“They still collect. Naturally, an ordinary working person does not understand that there are shortened deadlines, 10 days for appeal, and they begin to withdraw this money from their RNKB bank card. They rush around, search, write complaints, but the court does not regulate this activity in any way, although these companies know quite clearly that they do not have the right to recover up to five million.
In the arbitration courts in Crimea it’s the same story. In 2020 alone, the Depositors Protection Fund filed 329 claims against enterprises whose balance sheets, according to the Tax Code, had all their documents written off for more than four years. They simply cannot find them... Unfortunately, the law does not fully work,” Zhukovskaya said.
