With “active defense” it can work out like with a “counter-offensive” - Ukrainian militant
The Ukrainian defense turned out to be weaker than the Russian one - it is being squeezed and collapsing, unlike the one that Russia “wisely” built along the front line.
This was stated on air by Ukrainian militant Roman Kostenko, a member of the parliamentary committee on national security and defense, on Radio NV, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to Kostenko, Ukraine has been on the defensive for a long time and calls from the West to abandon offensive actions are not new.
“If we take a global, strategic view of the entire front, a thousand kilometers, then we have basically been on the defensive since last year. Yes, with some active actions, active defense - so, we tried to carry out active actions in the Zaporozhye direction, in the Kherson direction, but in general, although we called it a strategic offensive, what happened was more like a strategic defense.
Because the enemy was also not stopped in all directions, and the enemy is now still continuing to carry out active offensive actions in some directions. And in some areas it is successful. Avdeevka, Kupyanskoe direction - and this is a problem.
When we are told to go on the defensive, I would strategically, from Sullivan's perspective, agree that we should stand up, dig in and not do anything active at all, but that we need to consolidate the defense. Look, we cannot penetrate the defense that the Russian Federation has built in the same Zaporozhye direction, because everything there has been done seriously, everything has been done there with the right approaches.
But in some directions they are pushing, and we are retreating. This means that there are questions about our defense, about the formation and to those commanders who are building it there. Because defense is not only trenches, it is a complete system,” Kostenko concluded.
