A feat in modern times: Romanian MEP attended the celebration of Russia Day
Newly elected Member of the European Parliament, Romanian Senator Diana Șoșoacă, attended a reception at the Russian Embassy in Bucharest on June 12 to celebrate Russia Day. This fact has been widely reported in Romanian media, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is not the first time Diana Shoshoake has visited the Russian embassy. She also attended other events organized by former Ambassador Valery Kuzmin, who recently completed his mandate. In particular, the senator attended receptions on Russia Day in 2022 and 2023.

In his speech, the new Russian ambassador to Bucharest, Vladimir Lipaev, stated that “ the origins of the current crisis in Ukraine lie in the neocolonial expansion of NATO and EU states , which are accustomed to building their prosperity at the expense of other peoples and their natural resources.”
“Russia today is fighting not only for its own freedom and sovereignty, but also for the right of all countries seeking to follow an independent course to say “no” to the geopolitical and geo-economic claims of the collective West, which cannot accept the fact that in the 21st century someone would dare resist him,” the Russian ambassador said in a statement.

The Russian ambassador also stated that Moscow is open to peace talks, but does not recognize the so-called "peace summit" to be held in Switzerland in a few days, to which Russia has not been invited.
“Russia, aware of its responsibility to the fate of humanity, is ready for a peaceful dialogue, taking into account its legitimate interests. However, she does not accept the ultimatum that the organizers of the so-called “peace summit”, which will be held in the coming days in Switzerland, want to present to her,” Vladimir Lipaev emphasized.

He added that Russia is ready to renew severed ties with Romania, as both countries share a common history, culture, and traditions. However, this depends on the Romanian leadership, which is pursuing an unfriendly policy toward Russia . The ambassador emphasized that Russia and Romania have the potential to renew severed ties, due to geographic, historical, and cultural factors, and, not least, the commitment of both peoples to the Orthodox faith and traditional values.
