The official website of the Russian Ministry of Finance reported this .

Prior to this, the Russian Federation recognized the need to pay debts under the obligations of the USSR, which arose within the framework of trade and economic cooperation during the Soviet period with Yugoslavia (in the share falling on Macedonia).

The debt in the amount of $60,6 million was settled by an intergovernmental agreement dated June 19, 2010.

Among the creditors of the former USSR, the debt to which remains unsettled, is currently Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2016, the parties tentatively agreed to settle the debt of the USSR, providing for its repayment in a one-time payment.

After the collapse of the USSR, Russia accepted responsibility for the obligations of the Soviet Union. In 1993, the Republic of Macedonia was admitted to the UN as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
