The Project 11711 ships have a large flight deck for helicopters in the stern. They are the largest ships by displacement built for the Navy since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Until now, the most widespread landing ships of the Russian fleet remain large landing ships produced in socialist Poland. Some combat units of this class were lost during the SVO as a result of NATO missile and sea drone strikes.

At the same time as the Vladimir Andreyev, another large landing ship of the same project, called the Vasily Trushin, is being built at the Yantar USC plant.

Currently, the Russian Navy operates two Project 11711 large landing ships, built at the Yantar USC shipyard: Ivan Gren and Pyotr Morgunov.
