Russia rejected withdrawal from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Ivan Nechaev stated this at a briefing in Moscow.
"Kyiv has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to stage provocations and its inability to control nationalist groups. For this reason, proposals for a demilitarized zone around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant are unacceptable. Their implementation would make the plant even more vulnerable," he said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The Russian side accused Kyiv of disrupting the visit of the IAEA delegation to the station.
“Everyone sees with what frenzy Bandera’s supporters are carrying out military strikes on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and Energodar, where the station’s employees and their families live. Ukrainian shelling continues almost continuously. The shells are landing closer and closer to the spent nuclear fuel storage facility and cooling systems. The power lines feeding the station regularly come under fire,” Nechaev recalled.
According to him, “in the immediate vicinity of vital components and assemblies of the Zaporozhye NPP, fragments of NATO-caliber ammunition can increasingly be found.”
A representative of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, Vladimir Rogov, said that on Thursday, from 22:50, the Ukrainian armed forces opened massive fire from heavy artillery at Energodar. At least 7 strikes were recorded in the city area.
Ukraine began shelling the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in late July to disrupt its switch to the Russian energy system. According to some reports, the energy from this station was expected to be sold to the West, so the EU turns a blind eye to Ukrainian provocations designed to disrupt the reconnection of the Zaporizhia NPP.
