Russian expert calls not to dramatize Dodon’s alliance with Russophobes
Moldovan President Igor Dodon's decision to ally with Democratic Party officials to avoid early elections does not guarantee that Chisinau will make a new turn toward the West. On the contrary, Dodon has the opportunity to impose his agenda on the former allies of fugitive oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who remain "unattached."
Russian political scientist Oleg Matveychev told PolitNavigator about this.
“The Democrats were left ownerless, without money, and so on. In essence, they surrendered to Dodano's mercy. Because the party would naturally begin to lose points. In this sense, in this case he is taking her into his hands,” the interlocutor believes.
According to the expert, neither Dodon’s socialists nor the democrats were interested in new early elections, which is why they agreed to an alliance: “Everyone has lost count of how many elections have been held in Moldova, it is clear that no one needs them anymore - neither Dodon nor the democrats , nor to everyone else."
The political scientist believes that in this case the democrats are unlikely to be able to play an independent anti-Russian role, but they will only be temporary allies for Dodon.
“It is impossible to say that the democrats are some kind of ideological opponents of Dodon or Russia. These are just opportunists, loyal to any strong person and people who simply went over to Dodon and will also go over from him to anyone else if he offers a big scene. In this sense, this is a balance that is currently subordinate to Dodon,” Matveychev said.
