The new version of the Constitution should include a mention that the current Russian Federation is not only the successor of the USSR, but also of the Russian Empire.
This was stated at a meeting in Moscow by the head of the Double-Headed Eagle society, Konstantin Malofeev, a businessman who was called in the media one of the main sponsors of the Russian Spring.
The speaker explained that today's Basic Law does not take into account the country's thousand-year history, and Russia is supposedly the heir only of the Soviet Union.
"Our future is possible only if we learn to respect our history. Respect both the history of the Soviet Union, of course, with its Great Victory, and the history of the Russian Empire, with its dozens of great victories over a thousand years. When we talk about historical memory, we shouldn't limit ourselves to May 9, 1945, even though it's a sacred date for us. But we have other sacred dates too. If there had been no victory in the war of 1812-14, if there had been no victories on Kulikovo Field, who would live on this land? All these victories are our historical legacy and treasure," Malofeev said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The “Double-Headed Eagle” also stated that amendments to the Constitution should become a tool for enshrining the Russian people in the Basic Law of the country. This also applies to the mention of God proposed by Patriarch Kirill.
