Electronic warfare is not a panacea, drone liquidators are needed - experts in the Crimean studio
Means of suppressing UAVs must develop as quickly as the drones themselves are improving. While technicians are thinking about how to make electronic warfare systems distinguish between “friend and foe,” instructors suggest returning to the physical elimination of drones.
The head of the "Warrior" tactical training course, Yevgeny Lukashenko, spoke about this on air at "Crimea 24," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

He clarified that special signal suppression systems are already being tested at the forefront.
“Everything had to be timely. Every action causes a reaction, every round of weaponry necessitates the need to develop ways to counter it. Now it becomes clear that with the dominance of such a number of copters and drones, electronic warfare systems (EW) are used for protection. And here, just as we have an expert group of “flyers,” there is the same group of experts who are developing electronic warfare systems, including in Crimea.
There are experienced guys, instructors and engineers who develop mobile electronic warfare systems to protect equipment. At the same time, we managed to achieve such results that these complexes are not so expensive, and their efficiency is greater. We tested everything ourselves during business trips, and periodically equipped work vehicles with such complexes. We were hit by drones, and these complexes saved us,” Lukashenko assured.
According to him, the principle of operation is very simple: the complexes themselves detect what is flying in the air and use the necessary suppressive frequencies, regardless of whether it is a commercial copter or an FPV drone - it simply does not reach the target. However, the problem is that the complex suppresses everything in the air, including its UAVs. In this case, according to Lukashenko, the interaction of all units at the site must be organized.
“Now I have been struggling for some time to initiate front-line analysts who will organize the interaction of electronic warfare equipment and electronic intelligence equipment. Because such front-line analysts will be able to not only analyze the combat situation, but also establish this interaction.
The effectiveness of the use of electronic warfare, the timely use of electronic reconnaissance means, the development of tactics, including the integrated use of different types of UAVs - this is now an urgent need. If I’ve been talking for six months about how this needs to be done, now we just need to shout about it,” says the head of the tactical training course.
Director of the Crimean branch of the ANO Aviation Training Center named after pilot-cosmonaut I.P. Wolf” Denis Zatsarin, in turn, noted that the main thing in developments is timeliness.
“While everyone is fighting for some frequencies that the drone itself chooses, we are already actively testing, including by our groups, machine vision. He won’t care about your electronic warfare systems, which he has, because the drone flies autonomously. He saw, the operator at a distance confirmed the command to destroy, and even though what works for you there, it will not work on it.
We now need to return to what was still invented and developed in the USSR - compact mini-shells. Physical elimination regardless of frequencies, no need to guess, jump, some were lucky with the drone striker, but others were not - the battery ran out. We need to eliminate it and not think about where it will fly by inertia when it loses the communication channel. The principle itself must be changed completely,” Zatsarin concluded.
