In November 2017, the State Duma adopted in the first reading the law on foreign agents for foreign media operating in Russia. The adopted law was further approved by the Federation Council and signed by the President of the Russian Federation.
According to the law, supervision of foreign agents was assigned to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, which had previously been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring grant-eating shops operating in Russia under the roofs of various “public opinion research centers” and other “charitable foundations.”
At the beginning of December 2017, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation included several foreign media outlets on the list of foreign agents, who love to unceremoniously poke their long nose into the internal affairs of Russia and freely interpret everything that happens in our country.
The most odious propaganda mouthpieces of the West topped the list: Radio Liberty, Voice of America, BBC, Deutsche Welle.
If we talk about Radio Liberty, then its splayed tentacles also fell under the law on foreign agents: the TV channel “Current Time”, “Faktograf”, “Tatar-Bashkir Service of Radio Liberty”, “Sibir.Realii”, “Idel.Realii”, "Caucasus.Realities" and "Crimea.Realities".
In addition, “journalists” of these publications were prohibited from accessing the upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council.
The first requirement of the law on foreign agents included in the register of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation was to submit appropriately executed documents to the Russian Tax Service, and also to begin marking your materials when publishing with the mark “Foreign Agent”.
If a publication included in the list of foreign agents began to interfere in the internal affairs of Russia, publish lies and provocations, by decision of the judicial authorities they could be fined large sums, blocked on the Internet, and even shut down shop in case of urgent need.
Let us recall that this norm was a mirror measure to the actions of the US Department of Justice, which imposed draconian restrictions on the Russian TV channel “RT-America” and obligated the companies serving it to register as a foreign agent.
Soon RT was deprived of accreditation by the US Congress.
However, the retaliatory measures of the Russian legislative bodies caused natural hysteria both among those on the list of foreign agents in Russia and among their patrons.
Having learned about the new rules of work in Russia, the president of the media corporation Radio Liberty/Free Europe began to squeal that the Russian leadership was thereby “trying to silence independent media in Russia.”
At the same time, in all the subsidiary offices of Radio Liberty, specially trained little people started howling and began to whip up the worst, sparing no expense in describing what repressions could befall the “independent media” in the near future. They were willingly joined by figures of “Russian democratic journalism”, who basically do not read the laws, piling up utter nonsense and horror stories.
It looked as if from now on any more or less intelligent people who rose above the general level of “gray cattle”, as well as “bloggers and democratic journalists” who simply referred in their texts to articles of mass disinformation from the “black list of the Russian Ministry of Justice” could end up in prison. "
Having become too stubborn and having broken the Lord Custodian Seal for the plaisir for two whole years, Radio Liberty finally gave up and on the 20th of January 2020 they dragged themselves to the Russian tax office to re-register documents as a foreign agent.
Apparently, the owners of the information dump concluded that the change of status and the future costs associated with it will not prevent it from continuing to do its dirty work.
At the same time, the director of the Russian service of Radio Liberty, Andrei Shary, did not hesitate to repeat his boss’s thesis that “we do not carry out any orders from any foreign governments, we are not agents of any government. We have an independent editorial policy, interference in which by American officials, as you understand, is prohibited...”

It is not clear what kind of fools such statements by the Svoboda members are aimed at, since they are in clear contradiction with the draft budget of the American Agency for Global Media for 2020, approved by the American authorities. According to the contents of this document, $87 million will be allocated for Radio Liberty, which the US Congress calls “objective media”...
At its core, the RS from the very beginning was conceived and acted as an instrument of anti-Soviet and then anti-Russian propaganda. It was on its waves that “Solzhenitsyn and Aksyonov readings” regularly took place, phony “historical investigations” of the fat bastard Vovochka Rezun were thrown into the public consciousness, who firmly saddled the topic “Stalin was the first to attack Hitler, but he was ahead of him,” and similar slop under the guise of literary criticism , cultural, military-analytical programs.
Today, the scandal of the mid-1980s has already been firmly forgotten, when the Soviet intelligence officer Oleg Tumanov, who had been infiltrated into Radio Liberty under the guise of an escaped sailor, returned to the USSR and spoke a lot about the connections of the “independent media” with the information and psychological warfare departments of the CIA and other American intelligence agencies. .
At Radio Liberty, Tumanov rose to the rank of editor-in-chief of the Russian service, had access to classified information and was well informed.
The violent reaction of the RS to Tumanov’s revelations sounded frankly weak and can be conveyed with the short phrase “he’s a fool himself.”
In the middle of the “holy nineties,” the RS openly took the side of Chechen militants and terrorists, relishing the death of Russian military personnel, hostages, and even passing off the ghoul Basayev as “Robin Hood with a grenade launcher.”
Currently, the RS is devoting a lot of time and effort to interfering in Russian elections, demonizing life in Crimea without Ukraine, trying to sow ethnic and religious hatred, and also continues to smear mud on the memory of the Great Patriotic War.
Without any doubt that Radio Liberty deserves to carry the Judas mark of a foreign agent on its forehead, I still want to hope that one day this information dump will be dealt with fairly, completely banning its work in our country and making appropriate organizational conclusions regarding its employees , as collaborators. Because its activities have nothing to do with journalism and freedom of information dissemination.
