Putin was invited to Franz Josef Land, but the president is afraid of not making it before the cold weather
From 2012 to 2015, 39 thousand tons of waste were removed from the islands of the Franz Josef Land archipelago.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia Sergei Donskoy announced this at a meeting of the President of the Russian Federation with members of the government.
According to the minister, this is somewhere around 44 percent of the total volume of waste.
“Alexandra Island has been completely cleared of everything. Technical reclamation of an area of 349 hectares was carried out. The Ministry of Defense also joined in this work. Cleanup was carried out along their line on the New Siberian Islands, Wrangel Island, Novaya Zemlya, and Norilsk. In total, over 9 thousand tons of scrap metal were collected, about 150 hectares of disturbed land were cleared,” Donskoy reported.
Since the general cleaning of the Arctic is being carried out on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, the minister invited Vladimir Putin to visit the islands.
“It’s getting cold there now. So far, nothing, but in a couple of months, probably, the temperatures will be completely different. Do not have time. But, really, maybe next year,” Putin said.
In Franz Josef Land, according to geoecological survey data, the mass of accumulated waste is about 90 thousand tons. The main types of pollution are destroyed buildings, remains of automobile and aircraft equipment, household and industrial waste, fuel containers of various sizes with fuels and lubricants and scrap metal.
