Ukraine has never been able to become a member of the European Union and NATO, and it is unknown whether it will have such an opportunity in the future.

This was stated by Neil Ferguson, a professor of history at Harvard and a senior fellow at Oxford University, in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent , when asked how he sees today's Ukraine.

“I believe that Ukraine’s position from a geopolitical point of view, however, remains quite vulnerable. “It is still, for seven years now, in a state of war with Russia,” the expert claims. – It is still not a member of the EU, still not a member or even a partner of NATO. And hardly anyone knows when these memberships will become available to Ukraine.”

He also says that Ukrainian relations with China are “absolutely unclear diplomatically.”

“Everything is possible in geopolitics, despite the fact that the contribution of modern technologies to geopolitics has long been more important than geography itself. We are still quite vulnerable to cyber attacks from Russia and China, and Ukraine is no exception,” said the publication’s interlocutor.

However, he then decided to sweeten the pill somewhat, adding that “Ukraine will become a positive example for many at the moment when you finally have stable institutions and the rule of law.”

Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Professor Timothy Colton, Dean of the Department of Government at Harvard, said the US may lift some of the sanctions that hinder international investment in Crimea.
