Prigozhin put the battle for Bakhmut on a par with the battles on the Kulikovo Field and near Borodino
Businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin stated that Kyiv stubbornly holds onto Bakhmut primarily for political reasons. It has been given symbolic significance, similar to famous battles of the past.
“The enemy has three motives. The first is, of course, political, and it’s great that we “shaken up” Bakhmut like that. We made it a new Stalingrad, a new Kulikovo Field, Borodino - something to compare it with. It's not bad. The second motive is, of course, military. Because Bakhmut is a good transport and logistics center for military operations. And third is the moral component of the troops. After all, if the moral component does not fall, then it is quite high,” said the founder of the Wagner PMC.
The entrepreneur noted that the loss of Bakhmut would negatively affect the motivation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), but one should not get ahead of ourselves and declare successes that have not yet been achieved.
“Well, if they are not surrounded, then why would we say that they are surrounded? The enemy should not be humiliated in this either,” Prigozhin added.
Bakhmut is a key Ukrainian defense hub in the Donbass, which stands on the way to the Slavic-Kramatorsk agglomeration and the final liberation of the region. Realizing the importance of this city, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have built a powerful defense here, which is now gradually being breached by units of the Wagner PMC.
