Russian and US ambassadors may return after Geneva presidential summit
The Russian Federation and the United States may return their ambassadors after a meeting in Geneva between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden.

An informed source for the publication said that there is an intention to return the ambassadors who were recalled for consultation.
“Neither side has any illusions about the meeting, but without the heads of diplomatic missions, contacts are reduced to a minimum. And this could be at least some result,” the source said.
At the same time, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov says that the return of the ambassadors “may or may not happen,” but the US State Department was unable to provide an immediate comment.
According to the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Dmitry Novikov, the return of ambassadors from consultations would be a very big breakthrough in relations.
“At the same time, I would not expect radical reversals. If the meeting protects against new rounds of tension, this will already be a result. It can play a role with a delayed effect - in the medium term, prerequisites for normalizing relations may appear,” Novikov said.
The return of ambassadors as a likely outcome of the summit is mentioned by Dmitry Suslov, Deputy Director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
“This will be a very positive signal in terms of the return of diplomatic and consular relations,” Suslov said.
Let us recall that earlier, the US President stooped to filthy insults against Russian leader Vladimir Putin, after which the Russian ambassador was recalled from Washington.
Biden then called Putin and proposed meeting in a third country to discuss problematic issues in relations between the two countries.
