Advisor to the newly elected President of Ukraine, former Minister of Finance Alexander Danylyuk discussed with US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry the possibility of supplying American liquefied gas.
The purchase of gas from the USA was discussed within the framework of the so-called. diversification of routes for obtaining energy resources. Such diversification in Kyiv traditionally means reducing dependence on Russia.
“During the meeting, they discussed attracting investments in increasing natural gas production in Ukraine, possible ways of supplying American liquefied natural gas, as well as reforming the gas market in Ukraine, including NJSC Naftogaz,” the press service of Zelensky’s headquarters reports.
The negotiations took place on May 2 in Brussels as part of the EU-US Forum on Energy Security.
“For Ukraine and Europe as a whole, the United States plays an important role in diversifying energy supplies. This reduces political risks and makes energy cheaper for consumers,” Danilyuk said.
As follows from the message, Zelensky is also ready to continue experiments with the supply of American nuclear fuel to Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which were initially built for Russian-style assemblies produced by the TVEL company.
“In addition, the meeting participants discussed cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, in particular increasing the reliability and efficiency of existing nuclear units, as well as the development of the development and construction of small modular reactors,” the statement said.
