Poroshenko decided when Ukraine will join NATO
Newport, September 04 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Ukrainians themselves will decide when to join NATO.

During a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Poroshenko emphasized the importance of developing cooperation with the Alliance.
“The most important thing is that we need to improve our ability to cooperate,” Poroshenko said, noting that now this is more pressing than the issue of joining the North Atlantic Alliance.
To raise the question of joining the bloc, Ukraine must implement a number of reforms, Petro Poroshenko is convinced. “That is why we pay such attention to reforming and modernizing the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We will develop the defense sector, increase it to the NATO level,” the press service quotes him as saying.
At the same time, he emphasized that the situation in Donbass should not become a factor that will cause a delay in reforms. “Next week we will present a reform program, which was developed in cooperation with the EU and NATO,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
On determining the time for Ukraine to join NATO, the President said: “When the country can meet all the criteria for membership, when the Ukrainian people decide when and how to join the bloc.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the day before in Kyiv they raised the issue of changing the military doctrine and canceling the non-bloc status.
