Petro Poroshenko issued a statement in which he gradually changes his position on Donbass - he criticizes the idea of a complete blockade of Donetsk and Lugansk, and begins to prepare public opinion for holding elections in the LDPR.

“The reintegration of the territories requires extraordinary wisdom and foresight on the Ukrainian side... Without elections in the occupied territories, the political settlement will reach a dead end,” the presidential press service quotes him as saying.
“Some of the Ukrainian politicians do not hide the fact that they are striving for exactly this option, and they propose to “surround, block, isolate, cut off and give away... But this is a simple solution that does not require either intelligence or political will to restore the integrity of the country, no diplomatic talent. So this is not my script. And not the scenario of the majority of Ukrainians who strive for peace and reunification of the country,” Poroshenko continued.
“If we lose the chance to take back the Donbass and Lugansk region, who in the world will talk about the return of Crimea with a country that is scattering territories? Donbass is also our Motherland. Exchange of the Motherland is the last thing. My job is different, to save the country and restore it,” Petro Poroshenko concluded his explanation.
