“It’s time to say openly: NATO has been fighting the Russian Federation in Ukraine since 2014” - Ukrainian colonel
Since 2014, the North Atlantic Alliance has been fighting on the side of Ukraine against the Russian Federation, so the decision to close the Ukrainian sky with NATO air defenses will mean a direct declaration of war on Moscow.
Retired Ukrainian military pilot Roman Svitan stated this on the Internet channel “Yes it is,” as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“What does it mean to close the sky? This is the execution of certain actions. This is not like putting “Patriots” on the territory of Ukraine, even with Polish or German crews, and including NATO in the system. This is where NATO fighters should be brought. NATO countries are not covered by air defense systems alone. Platforms for transferring missile defense are also working. The same F-15, F-16 aircraft, which means the pilots will already be NATO pilots.
NATO pilots will have to fly over the territory of Ukraine, again from Ukrainian airfields. Their radii are not so large that they can operate from Polish airfields to cover our skies.
They must fly from our airfields, which means both the crews and the service systems must be NATO, and this is a whole NATO infrastructure. This is NATO entering the territory of Ukraine. That is, the word “close the sky” is a little not entirely linear.
I'll repeat it again. Airplanes, equipment, then aircraft like the AVACS system must hover, NATO military satellites must be turned on, American missile carriers with the Aegis system must enter the Black Sea - this is an air defense system that is also involved. This is the participation of the alliance in this dome, and not sitting in Germany.
That is, they must be on the territory of Ukraine, they must be in the Black Sea. This is a whole process that is simply impossible to carry out without going to war, without declaring war. Therefore, for a whole year we have been hearing real things that they cannot cover without going to war with Russia. They will not be able to cover our sky,” Svitan said.
He noted that NATO is already openly fighting in Ukraine against Russia with its weapons and has been training the Ukrainian military since 2014.
“The fact is that NATO is already at war with Russia. Since 2014, we have been trained by NATO instructors. Excellent instructors, Canadian ones - just a song. This is just a pro. So, since 2014 they have been preparing us. We have NATO weapons, we have equipment. We can talk about this now, it’s already clear to everyone.
That is, NATO is already fighting this war with all its weapons. Therefore, there is no point in raising this issue [of closing the skies of Ukraine], this is for NATO generals and politicians. Well, you’re fighting anyway, and that’s understandable,” added the reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
