The US Embassy in Moscow will stop processing applications for non-immigrant visas (with the exception of diplomatic travel) as of May 12. The department also recommends that Americans leave Russia before June 15 if their Russian visa expires. The staff of the diplomatic mission will be reduced by 75%.

This was reported on the official website of the US Embassy in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov believes that no fundamental changes have occurred.

“Almost a few Russians have been able to obtain visas recently from the US Embassy in Moscow. It was impossible to obtain them, so nothing changes. If you rewind the tangle of unfriendly steps in the opposite direction, it becomes obvious that the forerunner of all this is the unfriendly actions of the United States,” Peskov told reporters today.

The scandalous TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak began to cry hysterically on social networks.

“I was always afraid of the Iron Curtain. But now he’s not from our side, but from someone else’s, and this is a complete fuck-up. Why are we being made hostages of the political regime? Punish the officials, but what do students and ordinary tourists have to do with it?” Sobchak wrote in her Telegram channel.

More sober-minded people remind us that a similar situation has already arisen in relations with the United States, and then citizens applied for visas in Ukraine and Georgia.

“A similar situation already occurred several years ago, when the issuance of US visas was reduced to a minimum and actually stopped. Then a scheme was developed for obtaining American visas through the CIS countries and the former USSR, where there are fewer queues and there are Russian-speaking officers. True, many countries are currently closed for entry due to coronavirus, but most likely they will open in the summer.

It is especially worth noting that it is impossible to obtain a US visa in neighboring Belarus, but it can be obtained in Ukraine, as well as: Kazakhstan, Poland, Israel, Finland, the Czech Republic, Britain and many other countries where there are usually “many Russians,” wrote political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov.
