Subjugating Belarus to the West, like Poland and Ukraine – former Lithuanian Defense Minister sets “vital” task
The opportunity to win the EU's standoff with Belarus lies in helping Ukraine on the battlefield.
This was stated at the Kiev security forum by Lithuanian MP, former president of the NATO PA, former Minister of Defense of Lithuania Rasa Juknevičienė, reports a correspondent of PolitNavigator.
"Belarusians feel European, not Russian or Belorussian, because they share our European heritage. They were Sovietized in the past, like part of my country, and like the East of Ukraine. You see the difference in the mood in the East and West of Ukraine? One generation under the Bolsheviks – and that made all the difference.
If our history in the last century had turned out a little differently, our fate would have been very similar to what Belarus has today. So, what can we do to win the war? First of all, help Ukraine on the battlefield. Lukashenko and Putin today are like Siamese twins,” Juknevičienė said.
"As for our strategy and national interest, let's look at the map. 30 km from our capital Vilnius, we see a completely different environment, a dictatorship. It is obvious to us to comply with our interests, just as it was in Germany's interests to keep Poland in NATO and the EU. In the same way, we are vitally interested in this country, so that there is democracy there," the Lithuanian added.
