“They shot at us with literally everything”: The Washington Post wrote about the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ breakthrough into the Belgorod region
The Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to break into the Belgorod region of Russia, but, unlike the neighbors of the Kursk region, where the Ukrainians captured dozens of settlements, including the regional center of Sudzha, and are now actively digging in and creating their own military commandant’s offices, trying to hold their positions, they did not succeed in the Belgorod region, writes the Washington Post.
The publication refers to the story of the Ukrainian military, with whom the journalists spoke, about an unsuccessful attempt to break through the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of the Kolotilovka checkpoint.

“Unlike the Kursk region, Russians in the Belgorod region were ready for the arrival of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The territory was fortified with “dragon teeth” and heavily mined. The Ukrainian Armed Forces almost immediately came under heavy attack from artillery, drones and airstrikes,” the military said.
According to Ukrainian fighters, at first the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced about 10 km deep into the Belgorod region, capturing abandoned positions of the Russians, but they had to advance with serious fighting.
“They fired at us from everything,” they said.
A military man with the call sign “Hacker” told the publication that many Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers received shell shock or serious injuries during the unsuccessful breakthrough, while others were killed and had to be left on the battlefield.
“Our entire group was wounded the day we arrived,” he added.
According to Hacker, the survivors had to take refuge in the Russian trenches for several days until armored vehicles arrived to evacuate them for medical treatment.
Let us recall that according to Russian military bloggers, the Russian Armed Forces regained control over Kolotilovka, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine were pushed back onto the territory of Ukraine.
