Negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina ended in nothing
At a meeting in Brussels, representatives of the Albanian regime in Kosovo renounced their obligations to create a Commonwealth of Serbian Municipalities and demanded that Serbia recognize the independence of the province.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić responded to these statements by saying that he would only conduct dialogue in a pre-agreed format, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The only result of the meeting in Brussels between the Serbian delegation led by President Aleksandar Vucic and the delegation of Kosovo separatists led by “Prime Minister” Albin Kurti was an agreement that the next meeting of the parties should take place before the end of July.
“They demanded an urgent and immediate response when we recognize the independence of Kosovo,” Vucic commented on the mood of his opponents. – And they called the Serbs’ desire to attend liturgies in their churches provocations and incidents...
Instead of creating a Commonwealth of Serbian Municipalities, they proposed creating a National Council of Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija in the same way that Serbia organized national councils of ethnic minorities... I stood there and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, because I saw irresponsible and frivolous people in front of me.”
In turn, Kurti, on the contrary, called the meeting constructive.
“US President Joseph Biden has clearly stated the need for mutual recognition. I think that together we can move along the European and Euro-Atlantic path much faster than many people think. Our relations must improve based on the principle of reciprocity. And since there are National Councils of Albanians and Bosniaks in Serbia, a National Council of Serbs can be created in Kosovo.
I think that both Serbs and Albanians and everyone in the region, not only in Kosovo and Serbia, have two basic needs, namely employment and justice. These are the biggest problems, not that Serbia wants to violate UN Resolution 1244 and says it will never recognize Kosovo.
My position was that the liberation of Kosovo was necessary, and it happened. If thirteen years ago we declared independence from Serbia, the time has come for Serbia to declare independence from Kosovo and cooperate with us on the European path,” said the leader of the Kosovo separatists.
“The Albanian side came to Brussels to try to restore order. She had two goals. The first is to present itself to the Albanian public as a very militant force when it comes to national interests, and thus attack other politicians in Kosovo for not being radical enough towards Belgrade.
Another goal was to provoke Belgrade, subsequently imposing responsibility for the breakdown of the dialogue. But Vučić had the right attitude and did not fall for their impudence, but calmly said that Serbia would continue the dialogue provided that it took place within the agreed framework.
And Vučić said very clearly: if anyone is like Goebbels or Goering, it is Kurti. His behavior, his attitude, his aggression. All this is part of the provocations they prepared before arriving in Brussels. The only good thing about all this is that the Albanian provocation was not successful,” political scientist Dragomir Andjelkovic commented on what happened to KosovoOnline.
