The aggravation at the front in Donbass, where the day before Ukrainian troops shelled the suburbs of Donetsk and the positions of DPR defenders in the area of the former airport, coincided with the arrival of the American delegation to the location of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
DPR parliament member Vladislav Berdichevsky draws attention to this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The Ukrainian side reported that the day before the headquarters of the so-called “Joint Forces Operation” was visited by former CIA Director David Petraeus, former commander of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“I was very impressed by the professionalism of the Ukrainian forces... and the front areas near the Donetsk airport. The commanders we met were clearly extremely competent and experienced. The young Ukrainian boys and girls in military uniform that we saw also made a great impression on me. Actually, all Ukrainians should be proud of them and be grateful for their service... They definitely deserve our country and our allies to continue to support them,” said the former head of the CIA.
Petraeus was accompanied by former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst.
“That’s what this aggravation was like... Along with David Petraeus came John Herbst, director of the Atlantic Council Eurasian Center; US Ambassador to Ukraine (2003-2006), under which the Orange Revolution took place; US Ambassador to Uzbekistan (2000-2003), under which the US military leased the Karshi-Khanabad airbase for operations in Afghanistan after 9/11. We are waiting for further provocations,” Berdichevsky comments on his blog.
