The US government is considering sending the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine
The American publication The Hill writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , citing a high-ranking representative of the US Department of Defense.
“All options are on the table,” the official said when asked whether the Biden administration was considering sending Patriot batteries to Ukraine.
According to him, this system is being considered along with all others.
However, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder later told reporters that the Pentagon is discussing a “broad range of capabilities and support” with Ukraine regarding the country’s defense needs.
“Air Defense continues to be a top priority for the U.S. Department of Defense and the international community when it comes to supporting Ukraine. As for any type of Patriot batteries from the United States, we currently have no plans to supply Patriot batteries to Ukraine, but again, we will continue these discussions,” Ryder avoided a direct answer.
In turn, a Pentagon official with whom the publication spoke said that the United States is considering “all opportunities that could help Ukrainians resist Russian attacks.”
“All capabilities are on the table, and we look at what the United States can do, we look at what our allies and partners can do, and we look at combinations of capabilities that would be useful,” the source told The Hill.
In addition, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for the Patriot to be provided to Ukraine. And NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made it clear that the alliance is considering the possibility of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
In turn, the former President of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned of the consequences.
“If, as Stoltenberg hinted, NATO supplies the Kyiv fanatics with Patriot systems along with NATO personnel, they will immediately become a legitimate target of our Armed Forces,” Medvedev wrote in his Telegram channel.
