Lenin Square was completely filled. The parade became a real national holiday.
“It’s like being in Red Square again. The soldiers were just as good, and the rain was pouring just as well. But this is cleansing rain. Our land will be liberated, I believe in it,” said one of the veterans, Fyodor Solomatin, a participant in the battles for Warsaw.
Before the passage of military equipment and combat crews of the DPR army, the head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko made an address from the podium.
“You stopped the enemy near Moscow, beat the fascists in cauldrons near Stalingrad, and set the winning point in the enemy’s lair, in Berlin. You stormed the capital of Nazi Germany and hoisted the Victory Banner over the Reichstag! Today we are not ashamed to look you in the eyes. We did not allow ourselves to be brought to our knees, and we did not allow the memory of your Victory to be trampled. We can proudly say that we deserve you.
From us, residents of the entire Donbass, to all of you, veterans of the Great Patriotic War - a low bow... and thank you for the Victory!” – said Zakharchenko.
Afterwards, the column of militia and military equipment marched along Artema Street to the continuous greetings and applause of the residents of the republic.
And after the militia came the “Immortal Regiment”. Thousands of residents and guests of the capital with photographs of the fallen defenders of the Fatherland walked in a column along Artem Street, and each of those marching personally congratulated the living witnesses of the Second World War.
Some of the veterans could not hold back their tears.
